UCD CS PhD student selected to attend the Heidelberg Laureate Forum
Zahid Iqbal, PhD student at the UCD School of Computer Science, was selected among the invited attendees of the 7th Heidelberg Laureate Forum. This is the second time Zahid has been selected to attend this annual event. The Heidelberg Laureate Forum is week long forum where 200 young researchers from all over the world have the opportunity to network and discuss science with eminent researchers in their field. The senior scientists invited include winners of the Turing award, the Fields Medal, and additional prestigious prizes. The forum will take place September 22-27 in Heidelberg, Germany.
The HLF's goal is to promote mathematics and computer science by bringing together the most promising junior researchers from around the world with the most prestigious award winners in their fields. This event will consist of lectures from Laureates along with workshops and panel discussions, providing young researchers an opportunity to meet with the Laureates.
For his PhD research, Zahid is working in the VR Lab under the supervision of Dr. Abraham Campbell with augmented reality and machine learning agents to facilitate adaptive and kinesthetic learning in STEM education.
“To spend a week with these shining stars of computer science and mathematics and hear their stories — I’m expecting it to be a life-changing experience for me,” said Zahid. “I am also looking forward to meeting with the other 199 young researchers participating from across the world.”
